The atelier opens at six. One jacket takes twenty-six hours: fully canvassed, cut and finished by hand in Florence.

The Cloth

Every length is opened and handled before anything is cut. Super 180s wool from Biella, silk jacquard from Como, cashmere at 13.5 micron. If it does not feel right in the hand, it goes back to the mill.

The cloth rests twice: once before it is cut, and again before the pieces are sewn. Wool has a memory. Cut it too soon and the jacket pulls at the shoulder and twists at the hem, and pressing will not take it out.

The Fitting

A garment is fitted on the body it was cut for, and comes back as many times as it takes. Shoulders first, then the line of the back, then the length. A sleeve that hangs wrong is not steamed into shape. The panel comes off and is cut again.

The House

There is one atelier, in Florence, and no second one. The people who cut a jacket are the same people who fit it.

We keep the patterns. Come back in five years and the next jacket is cut from the same block as the last one.
